Costa Rica Cities

Planning a trip to the tropics? There are many Costa Rica cities to explore, so don’t forget to pack those walking shoes!

Really, there are four main Costa Rica cities that include San Jose, Golfito, Quepos, and Pto Jimenez. Each one has something different to offer tourists, and since this portion of the world is relatively peaceful, you don't have to worry about running into any really bad neighbourhoods. Still, be a conscious traveler and pay attention to those things around you while you are out and about. Since there are so many aspects to each of the above places, below you will find some of the highlights of each city.

San Jose is the capital city, which means that it has many different things to offer tourists. Within this city you will find the Simon Bolivar Zoo that is home to many different indigenous animals and couple of foreign animals as well. This zoo has been a popular destination for natives for some time now, though many tourists will find it appealing as well. After the zoo, why not head to the Lancaster Gardens or to Sabana Park for a bit of nature? Additionally, San Jose includes the ever-popular Butterfly Garden, which is sure to delight. Should you head to Golfito, you will find the following things intriguing.

Golfito is really an area that you want to go to if you enjoy fishing, yachting, or camping. While there are not too many public activities to plan your day around, those that want to experience this country via tent will find it rather unique. Should you be searching for a bit of sun and sand, Quepos is probably your best bet, since there are many different beaches within this city to explore (or, you can book a city tour to really see the ins and outs of this town). The last of the Costa Rica cities, Pto Jimenez, is a small but satisfying way to spend any lazy day.

Pto Jimenez is really a small fishing town that happens to have enough people to be considered a city. Many secluded beaches dot this land, and you will find that strolling along a sunny street is a fine way to see how Costa Ricans really live. No matter where you go, be sure to check with the local tourist board in order to find out about the many things each area has to offer.

For the most part, all Costa Rica cities are worthy of your time. If you are feeling adventurous, be sure to leave the comfort of your resort long enough to venture out into the real world – you’ll be glad that you did!
